Raised in Durango, Colorado, Matt's passion for skiing sprung at an early age while growing up in San Juan Mountains. With a deep appreciation for nature and curiosity of adventure, Matt has dedicated countless hours to exploring the wilderness and embracing its "everything".
As an A3 Pro2 and CO Type 1 certified blaster, Matt has built his career around snow science and mountain safety. He currently serves as an avalanche mitigation route leader and lead guide on the snow safety team at Cimarron Mountain Club. When not at CMC, Matt can be found Instructing on the SAS team in the Rec and Rescue programs or guiding with Silverton Powder Cats.
Matt's backcountry skiing experience has not only honed his technical skills but instilled a profound respect for the mountains and the importance of emergency medical care in remote environments. To help ensure the safety and care of his team, clients and students, he maintains certifications as an OEC NSP Ski Patrol member, EMT, and Wilderness First Responder (WFR), enabling him to provide critical medical assistance in remote settings and pass off patients to a higher level of care with confidence.
His commitment to safety, preparedness, and sharing his knowledge underscores Matt's dedication to ensuring both the enjoyment and wellbeing of those who venture into the backcountry with him. Matt also maintains an active status with the A3 as a Professional Member.
